I’m considering traveling around S. America for around 6 months to a year and wondered how much it would roughly cost. I would be back packing and am not expecting to sleep anywhere fancy or travel in luxery but I would like to hit some major cities for nights out as well as traveling to more remote places. Also if anyone knows the anyway to pick up casual work there to earn whilst I’m traveling that would be much appreciated. I don’t speak much Spanish at the moment but fully intend on learning.

I am planning to go traveling in South America around March and would like to know the opinions of people who have already been.

My girlfriend and I have looked at doing tours through companies such as GAP adventures but they appear to be expensive and lacking much flexibility (most cities are only stopped in for 2 days which doesn’t seem long enough to me) and i would like to know how easy and expensive it is to travel the country by yourself & how reliable and expensive overland transport is.

The other thing is safety; while my girlfriend is paranoid of being kidnapped by drug dealers i would like to know which areas are best to stay away from and of anything that i should be particularly aware of.

My family and I are hoping to travel somewhere in South America this upcoming February. We hope it to be relatively warm, a safe place for the family, and also, not to burn a hole in our wallets. My daughter speaks pretty much fluent spanish, so language isn’t that much of an issue… Our family likes to do a lot while on vacation, so a place with some interesting history and things to explore would be wonderful.

I’m looking to go for about 10 days in January or February. I like to travel cheap, to backpack and meet people. A nice beach like Rio would be great, but I’m really looking for a memorable experience…not necessarily a relaxing vacation. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Me and my wife are planning a trip next march 09. We are in our mid-thirties, and would like a relaxing vacation, and awesome beaches. We are quite easily pleased and not picky. But like a nice resort, not too crowded and clean. Thanks for all your help

I’m planning a trip with my bf and we are considering S. Am. (prob Brazil, Argentina, Patagonia area). Do you recommend somewhere great to visit? And what is the best way to get around (car, bus, plane??)

Somewhere fun, safe and inexpensive for two college students.
