Born to Al Hendrix and Lucille Jeter. Al Hendrix was in the U.S. army in 1942.
On November 27 1942, Lucille gavee birth to a son who she named John Allen Hendrix.
When Al returned three years late his son had been put into a foster home, because Lucille could not handle her own problems. Al took back John and on September11, 1946
In attempt to start new Al renamed John, James Marshall Hendrix.
When James was very young he had a strong passion for music. Guitars were always around in the home so of people he knew it quickly became his favorite instrument. Around the time that Hendrix began teaching himself to play the guitar he took influence from great blues artist like Muddy Waters, and B.B. King. He took influence from
rock ‘n’ roll of the 1950’s and he taught himself to play by listening to other artist. He also played a right handed guitar upside down and that added for visual effects. Hendrix indeed was different.
Hendrix dropped out of high school at age seventeen and joined the army to avoid being drafted. He took his guitar along. He was let out of the war on discharge just before the Vietnam War. In the army he met Billy Cox and formed a group called the
King Casuals. After being released James continued playing music with Cox along with other rhythm and blues bands around the south of the United States. He met later in New York’s Harlem “Faye” Prigeon. Later on he moved in with her, soon afterwards her network and his music prowess came together.
He performed with the Isely brother’s and appeared on six recorded songs in 1964 and 1965. However none of them was a hit. Later after not so much luck in America, Hendrix decided to go ahead to London. Chas Chandler gave Hendrix a fighting chance. He heard Hendrix perform at Café Wha and there he offerd him the trip to Europe. Hendrix responded “ Fair enough” it wasn’t as if America had “discovered” him. He wasn’t even paid a decent salary. And with british music topping the charts, the Beatles in the lead this was his big chance. September 24 1966 Hendrix left New York with doubt tha he would ever ven make it in London. He had no birth certificate until his original name was found. He received a 7-day visa upon his arrival in London. Meeting with some great musicians such as Mitch Mitchell, Jack Bruce and other great names was just the start for Hendrix.
Johnny Hallyday a French celebrity invited Hendrix to tour with him around France ten days later. They changed Jimmy’s name from Jimmy to jimi and called the band “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell joined with Hendrix to form the experience.
Purple Haze was Jimi’s first song.

Miriam
