I’m looking to do a spanish course for a month nov/dec in central or south america. this is the start of a travel trip so i’m hoping to be based somewhere on the coast with lovely beaches and great weather. can you recommend anywhere? Thanks

My girlfriend and I have looked at doing tours through companies such as GAP adventures but they appear to be expensive and lacking much flexibility (most cities are only stopped in for 2 days which doesn’t seem long enough to me) and i would like to know how easy and expensive it is to travel the country by yourself & how reliable and expensive overland transport is.
The other thing is safety; while my girlfriend is paranoid of being kidnapped by drug dealers i would like to know which areas are best to stay away from and of anything that i should be particularly aware of.

the people over there look like mostly white people or some other mixes but none look really like porto ricans or mexicans which is what we have in the usa.
i was wondering, becing their culture so different is it ok to call them latinos?
shouldnt that term just be for people of mexican or porto rican or central american races which resemble each other more?
im sort of confused, thats why
