I am almost positive I will be offered a position as a library teacher at a public school starting september 3rd. However, I have a pre-planned vacation to south america for a wedding for September 13-19 and would need this week off. This trip was planned a few months ago and was very expensive. Do you think the principal will let me to take this time off unpaid? I am a last minute hire and would not have planned this trip had I known I would embark on a last minute career-change and be teaching this fall.

This is something you need to discuss with your principal before you sign your contract. It can be very difficult to get that much time off, but some schools will allow it.
